Artistry

In the world of professional singing, sometimes you find that you can lose your own artistry when performing. Reasons for this could include, not trusting yourself enough, trying to copy the original singer or not knowing how to adapt a song to suit your personal abilities. There are so many ways you can switch up songs though that will make you stand out from everyone else.

Here are just a few ways to do this...

Choose a different backing track to the original. Maybe an acoustic guitar or piano track suits your artistic style more than the original does.

Add in runs and riffs wherever it feels right for you. Not everyone picks out the same runs though. So, if yours sound different to others, it doesn’t mean that either are wrong, it just means you have a different style.

If you are singing a duet, try to add harmonies in that may not be in the original track. Harmonies are sometimes quite tricky to find though, so don’t worry if you can’t instantly pick them out in a song. This gets easier as time goes on.

Vibrato comes naturally to some people and if you have the ability to do this technique, use it. Not only does it sound lovely but it so fun to do!

When practicing your songs at home or in lessons, record yourself because there is nothing more frustrating than when you do a gorgeous riff and then don’t remember it next time round.

If you are an instrumentalist as well as a vocalist, don’t be afraid to accompany yourself during performances. It’s entertaining to watch as an audience and fun to do as a performer.

I hope these tips have helped you guys!
